What is Voluntary Disclosure?
|
| |
|
 |
Voluntary disclosure is an agreement secured from a state for a company that has nexus and a filing requirement, but has never registered and filed sales and use tax returns. This agreement is negotiated on a no-name basis and will limit a company's prior years tax, interest and penalty. |

Terms
Generally STG can secure an agreement limiting the state's look-back period to three years. We can usually get penalties reduced and/or waived.
How Do We Do It?
STG works with the client to determine when nexus was established and how much exposure exists. We then contact the appropriate state agencies to negotiate an agreement on a no-name basis. Next, we confirm the agreement and review all documentation received from the state agency.
How Do We Prepare?
Once our client has decided to enter into an agreement with the state, we assess the tax owed. We aggressively limit the tax exposure/liability. When the liability is determined, we coordinate and process the agreement between the client and the state agency.
